Stretch-rich fabrics, everyday briefs and bikini cuts, and styles meant to sit close to the body typically fit best at your actual measured size. Sizing up in these cases often creates the exact problems (rolling waistbands, bunching fabric) that a properly fitted size avoids.
A Simple Test You Can Do at Home
Sit down in the underwear you’re considering and stay seated for a few minutes. If the waistband digs in noticeably more than it did standing, that’s a sign the fabric doesn’t have enough give for your comfort, regardless of what the size label says. This tells you more than reading a fabric content label alone.
What Sizing Up Doesn’t Fix

If a specific size consistently feels wrong despite matching your measurement, prioritize how it actually feels over strict adherence to the calculated number. Sizing exists to serve comfort, not the other way around.
