Direct Fit Answer

32A and 34AA are sister sizes. The same cup volume worn on a band that's 2 inches different, 32A being the snugger, more supportive option and 34AA the looser, roomier one.

If a fitter has ever told you to “try a sister size,” 32A and 34AA are the textbook example of what that actually means.

Why 32A and 34AA Hold the Same Volume

The underlying rule is simple arithmetic: plus 2 inches of band always pairs with minus 1 cup letter, and vice versa, because both numbers are just two different ways of describing one physical size.

In practice: 32A pairs a tighter, more supportive band with a smaller cup letter, while 34AA pairs a looser band with a bigger cup letter. Both are carrying the identical amount of breast tissue, just distributed differently.

It also explains why a bra you loved for years can suddenly feel wrong after weight changes, pregnancy, or just time. You may have simply shifted from one of these sizes toward the other without realizing it.

Signs You Need the Snugger 32A Instead

Lean toward 32A if the band rides up in the back within an hour of putting it on. A band that isn’t doing its job shows up as strap and shoulder problems long before it shows up as an obvious “this is loose” feeling.

Signs You Need the Roomier 34AA Instead

Lean toward 34AA if there’s visible spillage at the top or sides of the cup by midday. Cup problems are usually easier to spot than band problems, but they get blamed on “bad luck with bra shopping” far more often than they should.

Which One Should You Try First

If you’re shopping online and can only return one, lean toward the snugger band. A too-loose band is a much more common (and more uncomfortable) fit mistake than a slightly loose cup.

Not sure which of these two is actually your size? Run your measurements through the Sister Size Calculator or the Main Bra Calculator- both are free, private, and take under a minute.

Style Considerations

Full-coverage and plunge styles with real structure hold up better than soft, unlined designs at this range.

This Can Change Over Time

If you’ve changed your exercise routine significantly, muscle and tissue distribution can shift enough to affect band fit specifically, even without a change in overall weight.

Shopping Tips

Reading recent reviews that mention true-to-size feedback for the exact style (rather than the brand generally) is one of the more reliable ways to predict fit before buying online.

Natori Women's Feathers Contour Plunge Bra

4.6
•14,890+ Amazon ratings (snapshot)

A light everyday plunge bra with soft mesh-lace edges that lie flat against your chest. It won't gap at the top when you lean forward.

Claire's Fit Note: The band runs true to size, while the cup runs half a size shallow. If you're between two cup letters, pick the larger one.
Why We Like It:
  • Lace edge lies flat on shallow, athletic, or teardrop shapes
  • Low center gore stays hidden under V-neck tops
  • Soft stretch-lace band smooths the back without rolling
Keep in Mind:
  • Too shallow for very projected G+ cup shapes
  • Needs a wash bag or hand washing to protect the lace

Calvin Klein Perfectly Fit Lightly Lined Memory Touch T-Shirt Bra

Thin memory-foam cups soften with body heat to sit smoothly, and flat bonded side wings stay hidden under thin tees.

Claire's Fit Note: Calvin Klein bands run about half a size firm. If your snug underbust sits between bands, try your looser sister size.
Why We Like It:
  • Smooth laser-bonded cups leave no ridge lines under T-shirts
  • Light memory foam molds gently to your natural shape
  • Soft brushed wire casing prevents rubbing at the center
Keep in Mind:
  • Cups stop at DDD (F)
  • Band feels firm for the first few wears before softening

Frequently Asked Questions

Because body shapes vary even at the same measurements. Some ribcages are more comfortable with more direct band support, others prefer more give, so both sizes serve real, different preferences.
